Ran Out of Gas in Orlando? Don't Walk the Highway — Read This First

Published by Orlando Tow Pros — Central Florida's 24/7 roadside team

It happens more than you'd think: the gauge said 30 miles to empty, traffic on the Turnpike said otherwise, and now you're coasting onto the shoulder with fumes in the tank. Every week we rescue drivers in exactly this spot. Here's what to do — and why the obvious move is the most dangerous one.

Don't walk to the station

Walking a Florida highway shoulder with a gas can is genuinely dangerous — high-speed traffic, no sidewalk, 95-degree heat, and drivers who aren't watching for pedestrians. People get hit doing this every year. Your car is visible; you on foot are not. Stay with the vehicle.

What to do instead

  1. Get fully off the road — as far onto the shoulder as possible, hazards on.
  2. Note your location — direction of travel, nearest exit or mile marker.
  3. Call for fuel delivery. That's it. That's the whole plan.

How fuel delivery works

We bring enough fuel to get you to the nearest station — usually a couple of gallons, straight into your tank. No jerry-can tetris, no sketchy roadside transactions. Service starts at $49 plus the fuel at pump price, quoted before we roll.

Your gauge is lying to you (a little)

"0 miles to empty" isn't actually zero — manufacturers build in a reserve. But it's not a plan, either: in summer heat, consistently running near-empty overheats your fuel pump (it's cooled by the fuel around it) and stirs sediment from the bottom of the tank into your fuel filter. A $49 delivery beats a $400 pump replacement.

The tourist-trap version of this

Driving back from the parks or the airport with an unfamiliar rental, low fuel light on, no idea where the next station is? Don't gamble on the next exit — pull over somewhere safe and call. We do this run constantly along SR-528, SR-417, and the Turnpike.

On empty right now? Call (407) 504-7834 — average arrival under 30 minutes, 24/7, anywhere in Orlando, Kissimmee, Sanford, and all of Central Florida.
